This project has been on my calendar for a year. Over the past twelve months, a lot has changed, but I don’t mind the change. Without it, I wouldn’t be here and I wouldn’t be gearing up for such an endeavor.
We decided to meet up for a shakedown hike in mysterious southern Utah. None of us, apart from Sherlock, had spent any time in that area prior to this week. For the most part we were all strangers, meeting virtually and exchanging pleasantries via group message thread.
Anything this big takes time to build. Hiking one long trail provokes enough anticipation, but the emotions brought on by a 7,000-mile adventure is foreign. Having everyone together was encouraging and provided reassurance. This will not be an easy task, but at least we were able to spend this past week learning more about what provokes our daring.
